Yoga is one of the best things you can possibly do for your body. Regular yoga practice can positively affect digestion, circulation, respiration and lung capacity, heart health, posture and core strength, bone density, body composition, and joint health and flexibility; it can help the body process toxins out of its systems; it can promote regular appetite and sleep rhythms; it can improve mental health, neurological function and focus; and it can help relieve chronic pain. Best of all, a yoga practice can be modified to benefit any individual body and any range of abilities. Although there’s no such thing as a true cure-all, yoga is possibly one of the best ways we can get close to it. This month’s giveaway features yoga gear to help someone find their flow!

Blossomingyogis #1

Hooray, it’s finally March and time to jump into the new month’s challenge! I can’t wait to see everyone’s photos.

I went back and forth a bit before selecting compass pose as the challenge kick off but I’m glad I did because it goes well with the theme - I really do feel as though I’m blossoming as I open up into it.

The top two photos are prep poses you can practice if your body is not ready for the full pose yet. If you get the point that you are finding it difficult to breathe or your jaw is clenching, it is a sign that your body is telling you to back off.

Before attempting this pose, please be sure that you are fully warmed up. It is often taught as the ‘peak pose’ in classes I’ve been to and not generally introduced until the tail end of class. If you’re ready to try it, start cradling your leg like I am in the second photo. From there, lift the leg over your shoulder. If you can still breathe deeply, grab the foot with your opposite hand and open up into the full expression.

Today’s moment of gratitude: My loving husband.

Day 1 of #blossomingyogis Compass Pose
Does this look like compass?
No. And yet, I don’t care. I don’t care that it’s not perfect. I don’t care that it is a bit of a mess. I don’t care that it’s a crappy quality photo from my Photo Booth. I haven’t done yoga in 2 years. I care that I tried. That before I took this picture I did 7 minutes of sun salutations, then some eagle pose, cow face, and the two prep poses from the challenge. And I tried it. The only place to go from here is up.
Today I’m grateful for trying new things. And for free public libraries that provide me with the necessary books for my classroom.

I LOVE this! Yoga is a process, and the honesty here is beautiful. Namaste, lovely yogi!

It’s hard to believe that we’re already headed into March but a new month means a new yoga challenge! This month is special because we are transitioning into the Spring season. Since this is a beautiful time of rebirth and renewal, we decided to honor the theme of gratitude.
For this challenge, there are five of us who have joined together to practice yoga in March: #blossomingyogis hosted by Ola, Angie, Rae, Marion, and Rox!
We will be taking turns and alternating the days we host the challenge pose. Here is the list of poses we will be practicing this month:

— Here is how you can participate in the challenge:
Post your photo of the day on tumblr and tag it with #blossomingyogis. The five of us will be tracking the tag and liking/commenting/reblogging them.(Optional) You can also tag us (#tothemarathonandback, #bendyrae, #sassyyogi, #donutyogi, #nivueniconnue) in your posts too.
In each of your posts, include a note about something you are grateful for. It can be your friends, family, your job, or even something as simple as Saturday mornings or the warm sun on your face.
Remember to have fun, breathe, and enjoy your time on the mat. We will be offering modifications and variations for the poses, especially for the more challenging ones, so please do not force your body into a certain pose if you do not feel ready.
It’s yoga practice, not yoga perfect. Please don’t be discouraged if you have trouble with the pose of the day; message any one of us and we will be more than happy to help you. Please enjoy this month’s challenge and all of us are so excited to practice with you. We can’t wait to see all of your posts! Namaste.
